When we arrived in London, our plane was 1.5 hours late to Gatwick and we were BUMMED because it was cutting into our first day plans. We quickly made our way via train to Victoria Station and practically ran to our flat a few blocks away. Shlepping our luggage on the cobblestone streets was no small feat. Already tired, but VERY amped up, we too the tube to try to get to the Tower of London before the Beefeaters were done for the day…
Tower Bridge
Well, who can resist a quick stop at Tower Bridge first?I’d say someone is going to LOVE Europe!
Tower of London
The boys were so excited to get started with their adventure! If you get the opportunity, you MUST take the Beefeater tour! Officially know as the Yeoman Warders or Guard Extraordinary, they are the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London and official tour guides. Their knowledge and humor make for an extraordinary experience. We got to witness the changing of the guard and the kids were enamored with the pomp and circumstance behind the ceremony. It’s all about the details for me. I’m nuts for it.
Trafalgar Square
Teen is officially 13 and that is the very age I was when I sat in this exact spot with my best friend. It’s pretty special to get to look into my son’s eyes and know exactly what it’s like to be in London at 13-full of wonder..Little Miss showcasing the National Gallery. We had to explain telephone booths to the kids. That didn’t make us feel old at all…Our first day in London was a full one, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! We live for life’s little adventures.
Cereal Killer Cafe
I had read an article about cool places in London prior to our trip and burst out laughing at the mention of our next stop. Little Miss was determined to partake. I wasn’t certain she got the double meaning of the name, but she had it in her heart to try it, so here we are.
It really was a cool little spot and brought back so many childhood memories for Dr. D and I.Look at all the cool memorabilia on the wall. From ET to Tony the Tiger and Alf! Awesome!Little Miss had the Unicorn Poop Cereal, of course!
Dr. D. got a kick out of how they served his receipt to him-in a Back To The Future VHS box!
We hailed a cab, the kids first and our driver got a kick out of their excitement and let us have a little fun!Westminster AbbeyThe Palace of Westminster or Parliament which serves as the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.Stunning! We knew Big Ben was under construction, but we weren’t expecting this!London Eye
Buckingham Palace
It was a busy day at the Palace with a race prior to our arrival, so security was a nightmare, but the kids really loved the experience of seeing such an iconic landmark. Off to the Royal Mews!
Can you beat how cool this is?
Shakespeare Pub London AND Fish & Chips-A tale of two classics
I mean really? We just had to!It was perfect!
Harry Potter
Are you really a Harry Potter fan if you don’t stop at King’s Cross? We think not! We gave each child some money for one nice souvenir on our trip and Teen decided a Wizard’s Chess set was in order. I concurred. I thought it was pretty cool. FYI, Little Miss ended up with something in France.
